Join Me
I know I’m not the only person in Australia who regards our house prices as crazy–not to mention economic policy which has become beholden to maintaining the property bubble. If you’d like to spend a afternoon walking with me to make that point (or a morning running, or cycling, or rollerblading, since I’m the only one who has to walk), I’d be delighted to have your company.
The trek will take 8 days (weather permitting), from 2pm Thursday April 15th at the entrance to Parliament House, to Friday April 23rd in the afternoon on the peak of Mount Kosciouscko. I’ll run roughly 15km each morning between about 10am and 12pm, and then take a break for a long lunch and relaxation. At 2pm, I’ll walk an additional 15km.
If you’d like to come along for as little as one afternoon or as much as the whole trek, please fill out the form below and click “Send”. If you change your mind later and either want to walk on more or different days, just let me know via the email (keenwalk AT google.com) and we’ll amend your schedule.
It will be easy to get from Canberra to any of the locations for the 2pm walk, and we’ll run a shuttle to take you back to your vehicle after the walk. If you want to join me for the morning running leg, it will still be feasible to join us from Canberra if you depart early enough (the morning run will not start until 10am), but you may find it more convenient to book into a motel with us–all overnight stay locations are listed on The Route page.
I have booked three rooms at each stay–one for myself, one for my masseuse and one for a film crew. Others who wish to join us for an overnight stay should make their own bookings at the relevant motels. Let me know as soon as possible that you will be joining us, and tell the motel that your booking is with the Keen party; discounts are possible if we get sufficient numbers.

Having seen first hand the financial position of some property purchasers, I have always agreed with the direction that you thought the economy & property would head.
All the best with your walk.

Most of your economic arguments make sense to me Steve, even if timing is awkward to predict. Blame govt meddling in the market for that!
The walk is a terrific initiative – well done. Have other commitments at that time, tho may be able to join up towards the end. I’ll work on it!
Cheers
Edward
PS the swags impress – both the idea, and the implementation. They seem v well designed.

Agreed Edward. For everyone’s benefit, here is an excellent article by Tim Colebatch of The Age on the fallacy of regarding rising house prices as always and everywhere a good thing:
